sorry for the late reply.
i use a laptop and a wacom tablet when i go outside. i made a little shade box for the laptop also to keep the glare off the the screen.

great work. Sounds crazy that you would carry a wacom board and a laptop for plein air painting but it seems to work just fine ;-)
Have you ever tried a TabletPC like the Asus EP 121. Having a Wacom board built into the screen they could work pretty well
